I Sat in the Shade of the Lover of My Soul… and there was joy

His banner over me is love.

Like the banner over a castle, military squadron, or tribe is its identification, God’s banner flying over me is love. What an amazing thought! His banner over you and I, His beloved bride the church, IS love. How amazing is that.

Thursday was a discouraging and overwhelming day at my new job. But Friday is a brand new day. It was time to get my mind off the job and my discouraged heart for the weekend. I was supposed to be preparing for dinner guests and didn’t really have time to play but I sat in my little corner at my art table just enjoying the view out the window, thankful for time to breath.

I planned to get up and get to work but this page called me. It was already partially done and it said “finish me.” I gave in and asked myself the question you asked me… how will I finish it?

At the end was joy…

“As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so [is] my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit [was] sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me [was] love.” Song of Solomon 2:3-4

(Sometimes there is no just no substitute for King James poetry.)

For an hour or so I sat in the shade of the Lover of my soul. I hid in His Words for just a little while and He fed me at His amazing banquet table. And that banner over my head, the sign over me and on my heart that no one can take away, not even a really hard job… His banner over me is Love.

God’s love for His children is beyond compare. To know you are loved by the King of Kings is so healing. It changes the way we live out our days.

I literally spent the rest of the day in a completely transformed frame of mind. It has been a while since I felt like I had a real recess with Jesus where I could just play for the joy of being with the Lord in His Word and it was wonderful! My heart was filled with deep joy and peace for the rest of the day, even as I scrambled to clean, and shop, and cook for dinner guests.
